SGS Opens its First Integrated Food Safety and Cold Chain Facility in India
SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, announces today the opening of its first integrated food safety and cold chain facility in Mumbai. This new facility has been built in response to the industry needs for an integrated approach to food safety throughout the product value chain. The opening ceremony hosted by Anthony Hall, COO SEAP, was attended by several customers and the SGS CEO Christopher Kirk, Jeffrey Newell EVP - Agricultural Services, Paul House, MD India, Sudhir Kumar Business Director.
The facility includes over 600,000 cubic feet of temperature controlled storage:
- Variable degree chiller (2°C to 8°C)
- Freezer storage (up to – 25°C)
- Pallet and box configurations for storages
- High throughput Material Handling Equipment (MHE) for safe handling of product
In addition, this new facility also provides processing services:
- Ripening of fruits
- Sorting, grading, packing and repacking of fresh produce
The cold chain facility has been designed to meet the company’s rigorous sustainability and energy saving standards as well as the highest standards of hygiene required by the authorities and clients.
By bundling inspection and analytical services along with the services that will be offered by this facility, SGS aims to become a one stop shop for customers in the Food industry.
